Changes to mooring services
Mooring services in the Suez Canal shall from the 15th May 2026 only be provided from shore based stations for all vessels transiting the canal and without any mooring personnel onboard.
This is a change from the previous circular where approx. 1/3 of the vessels transiting were required to have mooring services onboard while transiting.
However, the Suez Canal Authority reserves the right to require any vessels to receive onboard mooring services, including towed units, drilling rigs, integrated units, units of special nature or with special arrangements. In the event any of these should refuse or be unable to receive the mooring services, an imposed tug will be applicable (SDR 22000 = approx. USD 30 000).
New cost for the shore based mooring services will be USD 3800 for GRT >2500 and USD 2350 for GRT <2500.
Changes to Light Services
In addition, all vessels transiting are now required to provide their own light projector (searchlight) in compliance with the Suez Canal Rules of Navigation (Dec. 2020). Electricians will no longer board the vessel, however the projector will be inspected during the vessel's first transit and if any remarks were recorded in the previous transit.
Absence of a searchlight or non-compliant searchlight will result in a fine of USD 500 per transit starting from the first transit.
